Triathlon is a sport that combines swimming, cycling and running sequentially and without interruption, perfect for practicing in Florianópolis.
Because it is exhausting, the individual needs to have adequate physical conditioning for all three sports.
Some standard definitions of evidence:
- Sprint Triathlon (750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run);
- Olympic (1500m swimming, 40km cycling and 10km running);
- Long distance (2000 to 4000m of swimming, 60 to 160 km of cycling and 16 to 42 km of running).
SwimmingThe first stage starts with all the competitors positioned side by side in a horizontal line. This way, the mark is set by buoys in the sea, which serve as guides for the athletes.
CyclingAfter the swim, each competitor will have their own time to get to the venue. The only rule to be observed is not to put your feet on the ground during the run.
RacingThe rules for the race, on the other hand, are restricted to clothing: it is not allowed to run without a shirt, barefoot or wearing goggles or a swimming cap.
History of Triathlon
Triathlon arose from a challenge in Hawaii as to who would be the most complete athlete: the one who did the 3,800m Waikiki Crossing, the one who completed the 180km Ohau Cycle Tour or the one who ran the 42km Honolulu Marathon.

But would there be an athlete who could do all three races in one go?
The challenge was launched and on February 18, 1978, 16 crazy people signed up.
Only four participants completed it. The challenge was repeated in subsequent years.
The race spread all over the world and was named Ironman.
Sport in the Americas
But in 1974, in San Diego, in an athletics club, during the athletes' vacations, for their maintenance, they ran 500m in the pool, 12km cycling in the condominium and 5km on the track.
In 1976, San Diego lifeguards proposed a competition of 700m at sea, 15km of cycling and 4.5km of running.
The sport became popular and distances underwent adjustments and variations.
