Praia da Solidão is one of the most unspoiled and least frequented beaches in Florianópolis.

Located in the south of the island, it has a stretch of about 850 meters of fine white sand, surrounded by preserved Atlantic forest.

Known for its crystal-clear waters and strong waves, it is an option for surfers looking for a quieter, more exclusive place to surf.

With a simpler infrastructure, Praia da Solidão has a few restaurants and bars serving mainly seafood.

You can also find a few beach kiosks offering drinks and snacks.

Solitude beach sea

Solidão beach is open to the ocean, but its waters are calm and serene.

This phenomenon is due to the Rio das Pacas, which acts as a natural buffer to the waves and gives a softer touch to the slope ahead.

The waters are usually cold, especially when the south wind blows, making the waves bigger.

History of Solidão beach

Little is known about Praia da Solidão's history.

It is believed to have been inhabited by fishing and farming communities in times gone by.

Access to the beach is via a dirt road that passes through a region of preserved Atlantic forest, which makes the landscape even more enchanting.

Origin of the beach's name

The beach is officially called Praia do Rio das Pacas, however, it is widely known as Praia da Solidão, a name that was consolidated in the 1960s due to its remote and sparsely inhabited location.

About three decades ago, the word “solitude” was inscribed on one of the rocks on the coast, helping to consolidate the region's new name.

The beach's name, according to popular tradition, comes from a story of forbidden love between an Indian woman and a white man, which ended in tragedy.

According to legend, the Indian woman fell in love with a white man who frequented the village in search of drinking water.

However, the Indian woman's father, who was the chief of the tribe, forbade the relationship. Desperate, the young woman fled with her lover, but was pursued by the tribe.

When they reached the beach, they were cornered by the Indians. Before being captured, the couple threw themselves off the rocks and died embraced.

The beach has since been renamed Praia da Solidão in honor of the story.

For a long time, the region was inhabited by Indians and later by Azorean colonists who settled on the island of Santa Catarina.

From the 1970s onwards, the beach began to be frequented by surfers in search of quieter, more secluded waves.

Solitude Trails and Waterfalls

Solidão beach is surrounded by many natural beauties, including the trails and waterfalls that the region has to offer. Check out some of the options:

Solitude WaterfallLocated on Solidão beach itself, the waterfall is one of the region's main attractions. The walk to the waterfall is short and easy, and the freshwater bath is a great way to cool off on hot summer days.

Praia da Solidão is a great option for those looking for peace and quiet, as it is little frequented and unspoiled.

In addition, its privileged location offers panoramic views of the island's south coast.

There are also hiking options from other nearby beaches, such as Praia do Matadeiro.

In terms of curiosities, Praia da Solidão is considered a meeting point for surfers and local artists, who seek inspiration in the nature and tranquillity of the place.
