Bloco Biruta, the traditional representative of Carnival in the Carianos neighborhood, has already confirmed the date of its parade in 2026 and invites the entire community to take part in another great popular celebration in the south of the island.
This year, the bloco is coming up with a special plot full of meaning: “Exaltation to the Benzedeiras”, paying homage to key figures in local culture - Dona Apolónia, Dona Jordânia and Dona Liró, women who are part of the affective memory and community traditions of Carianos.
The plot was written by Duda Vieira and seeks to highlight stories that are often little known but deeply rooted in the neighborhood's identity.
Street carnival, culture and community
Recognized as the Carnival of Carianos, Bloco Biruta reinforces its mission to keep joy, samba and popular culture alive, bringing together residents and revellers in a parade that celebrates belonging and community spirit.
The organization stresses that the bloco is an open invitation to all ages: families, friends and visitors can join the party, strengthening the tradition of street carnival in the neighborhood.
