In Tupi-Guarani this name means Monkey Head Earth Point.

The term “Mirim” means small. Caiacanga Mirim means “Point of Land in the Shape of a Small Monkey's Head”.

This name is used to differentiate it from the other larger end of the beach, better known as Caiacanga Açu.
