Florian\u00f3polis will celebrate its 350th anniversary on March 23, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To celebrate this special date, Editora Express\u00e3o, in partnership with Florian\u00f3polis City Hall, is launching an extensively illustrated book, telling the story of the city and showing its cosmopolitan profile today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a light text and beautiful images, including several infographics, the book will show you what Florian\u00f3polis looks like today and tell you about the city's history, from the visits of the first European travelers to the island of Santa Catarina in the 16th century. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The idea is to create a book that is interesting both for those who already know the city well and for those who don't yet.

The current pillars of Santa Catarina's capital - tourism, technology, education and sustainability - will be highlighted in the initial part of the book. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It will be a great synthesis of a city that combines cosmopolitan characteristics with the preservation of its traditions and natural charms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, we'll delve into history, passing through crucial moments in the city's history, such as the Spanish Invasion of 1777.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Revolt of the Navy in 1894, the inauguration of the Herc\u00edlio Luz Bridge in 1926 and the Novembrada in 1979.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Historical buildings, such as churches, forts, the \u00c1lvaro de Carvalho Theatre, the Public Market and the Charity Hospital, will be given their due prominence, each of them duly contextualized in their times and purposes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Florian\u00f3polis' cultural characters<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Cultural figures such as painter Victor Meirelles, writer-aviator Antoine de Saint-Exup\u00e9ry, educator and politician Antonieta de Barros and folklore researcher Franklin Cascaes, among many others, will also be remembered in the book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other aspects that are part of the city's daily life, such as visits from whales and the rivalry between Ava\u00ed and Figueirense, couldn't be left out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exploits of tennis player Gustavo Kuerten, the cultivation of oysters and student life at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The book will also include curiosities, such as the various islets around Santa Catarina Island and the controversy over the exact number of beaches on the island. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In fact, the work will remind us that Florian\u00f3polis is not just the island - the mainland is important and representative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
