Located on the southern tip of Santa Catarina Island, Praia do Saquinho is one of Florianópolis' unspoiled and tranquil gems

Just 250 meters long, the beach is surrounded by hills covered in Atlantic Forest and its waters are crystal clear and calm, ideal for those looking for a place to relax.

The beach's infrastructure is fairly simple, with few bars and restaurants, and no resorts.

However, it is possible to find some holiday homes for rent and a small camping site, which attracts many tourists seeking contact with nature.

History of Saquinho beach

The history of Saquinho is related to the time of Azorean colonization in the region, where fishing and the cultivation of manioc was a tradition.

According to records, the name of the beach came from a small sack that was used to transport flour and other foodstuffs by the region's ancient inhabitants.

The Saquinho beach area was once an important manioc flour production point in the colonial period.

Cassava was planted on the slopes of the hill and processed in mills, which produced the flour used to feed the region's inhabitants.

Another story that refers to the name comes from the word “sachet” used by fishermen to refer to the places where they put the fish they caught.

The name was made official in 1990, in honor of the village that developed in the region.

For many years, mullet fishing was very strong on Saquinho Beach, as well as on other beaches in the south of the island.

Access to the beach is via a 30-minute walk that starts in Pântano do Sul.

The trail is of medium level, but can be a little tiring due to the steep ascents and descents.

Legends of Saquinho beach

One of the most famous legends is that of the “silver bullet”, which tells the story of a fisherman who found a silver bullet while fishing on the beach.

Legend has it that the bullet belonged to a treasure buried in the region and that the fisherman was never seen again after finding the object.

Interestingly, Praia do Saquinho was used as the setting for some scenes in Rede Globo's soap opera “Avenida Brasil” in 2012.

If you're looking for a quiet place away from the bustle of Florianópolis' most popular beaches, Praia do Saquinho is a great option.

With its unique natural beauty and bucolic atmosphere, the beach is ideal for those seeking contact with nature and moments of peace and tranquillity.
