Kitesurfing or Kite is a mixture of windsurfing, surfing and wakeboarding.

It's a water sport that uses a kite and a board with a footrest. The aim is to “fly” and glide across the water, pulled by the kite.

This sport is very recent and is becoming more popular every day in Brazil and around the world.

Equipment

The equipment for kitesurfing is: Kite + Trapeze (belt) + bar and board

  • Board - It varies according to the athlete's style. They can be directional or bidirectional, even wakeboarding.
  • Kite - The main piece of equipment is the kite. It's made from the same material as a parachute and is shaped like an arched wing.
  • Bars and lines - with the bar, the athlete controls direction and speed. It is 90 cm long and has a safety system. The lines measure from 12 to 24 meters. They connect the kite to the surfer and have functions such as control, flight and braking.
  • Trapeze - is the belt that connects the practitioner to the kite.

The kite is attached to a belt around the athlete's waist and he stands on the board on the water.

From there, the wind propels the kite, making the board glide over the water.

The sportsman has a control bar with which he can choose his path and perform incredible jumps.

Nowadays, there are foil boards.

Kite history

Kitesurfing was created in 1985 by two Frenchmen: Bruno and Dominique Legaignoux.

The name of the sport is a combination of the English words: kite, which means kite, and surf, which means to glide over water.

After that, the sport became a hit all over the world and is widely practiced on beaches and lagoons.

Like surfing, kitesurfing also uses a board, but it also uses a kite that is attached to the waist.

The location and strategic position of Florianópolis allows kitesurfing to be practiced in various places

The truth is that the best place to start practicing and improving is at Lagoa da Conceição.

The lagoon is a year-round playground for windsurfers, sailors, kayakers and, of course, kitesurfers.

The site also caters for the advanced public who want tranquillity and to enjoy the natural scenery.

5 km from Lagoa da Conceição, There are two beaches for practicing. Mole Beach, Because it's rough/open sea, the demands are higher on the athlete.

And the Barra da Lagoa, This is a good point for those who want to improve their Kitewave practice and is sometimes less aggressive than the Mole.

In turn, the Campeche beach which is also a thick sea with high salinity.

This is the beach where the Windsurfing and Kitesurfing Festival takes place, the idea of which is to include Campeche in the calendar of the world kite circuit.

In addition, in the north of the island we recommend the beaches of Daniela, Santinho, Jurerê, Cachoeira and Ingleses.
