History of Surfing
There is no record of when surfing originated.
However, according to some historians, the sport originated in the Polynesian Islands because, when returning from fishing, the natives would glide their boats through the waves in order to return more quickly.
In turn, theories also defend Peru and West Africa as the cradle of surfing, but everything could have happened simultaneously, who knows?.
Later, the kings of the Hawaiian islands began to use planks of wood taken from local trees as boards.
The truth is that it was in Hawaii that surfing really became a culture and a lifestyle.

In 1778, the English navigator James Cook arrived in the Hawaiian archipelago and took the idea of the sport to Europe.
In the 1950s, surfing gained great popularity in the United States, especially in California, becoming part of the local culture.
From the 70s and 80s onwards, professional championships began. A similar movement was taking place on the island.
